Your Change Companion

Integral Coaching with Benjamin

The coaching relationship is a unique container for exploring your inner-wisdom. Here, we set aside space-time for the sacred work of self-realization and ever-change. My approach to integral life coaching affirms heart, mind, body, spirit, and intuition. When we establish a coaching relationship, the client’s hopes, dreams, and holistic health and wellness are the central focus of our work. As your coach, I serve as an emboldening ally, sounding board, and resonance chamber, purposed toward forward motion.

Coaching Philosophy

“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” ~ Carl Sagan

As your integral coach, I believe that your heart, mind, body, spirit, and your intuition, are brimming with incredible wisdom and self-knowledge. In the context of the coaching relationship, I believe that we can transcend this space-time continuum, and move into a new reality, into paradigmatic shift, through the pregnant possibility of what Hawaiian spiritual teacher, Lei’ohu Ryder refers to as “this now moment.”

Sometimes the work of coaching doesn’t seek to change the circumstance, but allows us to inhabit the current paradigm more profoundly, and the client discovers that a subtle, rather than overt change, is what is necessary. Time and space are of no object in the archaic and magic senses, but as we integrate the mythical and mental senses, story-time and spatial limitations become valuable strategic tools, essential to forward motion. Whatever your focus and eventual direction may be, I am not here to lead or counsel, but to follow and accompany you into deeper awareness and possibility.

In dark night live those for whom

The world without alone is real; in night

Darker still, for whom the world within

Alone is real. The first leads to a life

Of action, the second to a life of meditation.

But those who combine action with meditation

Cross the sea of death through action

And enter into immortality

through the practice of meditation.

Katha Upanishad

Integral Coaching

Integral coaching is about bringing heart, mind, body, and spirit into alignment so that you may realize your goal with an integrated perspective. Rather than lead, I follow your process with a series of questions and tools/exercises that may help you get in touch with your own inner-wisdom. Sometimes it is helpful to make a list, or get up in the room, inhabit your senses, and really try an idea on. Other times, you may need a brainstorming partner, or simply to have someone really listening to you as you talk something out. You may need an accountability partner, or find it helpful to have someone reflect your thoughts and feelings back to you for clarification. You may need a guided meditation, a ritual, or a rite of passage to move forward or backward, deeper or broader, toward your highest purpose.

The Infinite is above and below, before and behind, to the right and to the left. I am all this.
The Self is above and below, before and behind, to the right and to the left. I am all this.

A Unique Approach

Your Wisdom Partner

My coaching practice is rooted in Dr. Linda Bark’s Wisdom of the Whole coaching model and draws from my years of study and experience in the fields of organizational leadership; spiritual ministry; ritual, liturgy, music, and community dynamics; body work, mindfulness, meditation, and education. In my work as an educator and coach, I have worked with all ages of humans, both in group settings and one-to-one. As a Ph.D. student of Organizational Leadership, I have a strong theoretical background in systemic change processes, adult learning theory, diversity and inclusion, and positive psychology.

My Role; Your Process

My role may shift between coach, consultant, and spiritual director to best serve the expressed needs of you (the client), in accordance with my training, experience, and intuition. All tools and methods for processing and visioning, which are employed within the context of the coaching relationship, seek to enshrine your agency, in a consent-first environment. As described by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching (2017), “Health & wellness coaches partner with clients seeking to enhance their well-being through self-directed, lasting changes, aligned with their values. In the course of their work, health & wellness coaches display an unconditional positive regard for their clients and a belief in their capacity for change, honoring the fact that each client is an expert on their own life, while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental.” My practice recognizes that health and well-being stretches beyond the realms of medical, behavioral, or psychological states, into the realms of purpose and possibility.

Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

Feeling Curious?

These are some of the most common and most important questions about integral coaching.

What is "Integral" Coaching?

Integral coaching is about bringing heart, mind, body, and spirit into alignment so that you may realize your goal with an integrated perspective. Specifically, "Integral" Coaching references Dr. Linda Bark's application of Jean Gebser's Structures of Consciousness to the practice of coaching and wisdom work.

I'm not here to determine what you need, but to support you as you embark on this journey of self-discovery and actualization.

How does coaching differ from therapy?

I am not a licensed medical or mental health professional; therefore, I am not legally or professionally capable of assessing, diagnosing, or treating any physical or mental health condition. The State of California does not license health and wellness coaches. Credentialing (when sought) is provided by independent organizations of self-regulating professionals and field-experts who set professional standards for their field, including a code of ethics and scope of practice. I am a graduate of Wisdom of the Whole Coaching Academy, which is accredited to prepare/educate coaches by the American Holistic Nurses Association, the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching, and the International Coaching Federation. Should I feel that your needs are beyond the scope of what I am trained and authorized to provide as an integral/holistic health and wellness coach under state law, I will recommend that you work with a licensed medical or mental health professional instead of, or in addition (at your provider's discretion) to continuing the coaching relationship.
